...which was positioned to be the weekend's top newcomer, didn't exactly underperform; its opening was in line with the first weekends of other Aniston and Butler comedies. But with a cruddy 9% score from Rotten Tomatoes' survey of movie critics and a B-minus CinemaScore rating, the film can't expect much repeat business. At least it did better than Repo Men, whose re-poor $6.2 million made it suitable for foreclosure. Shelved for more than two years after its late-2007 shoot, the picture deepened the red-ink bloodbath at Universal, which has suffered from a year...
...musical biopic The Runaways, which opened in limited release to a so-so $803,000 on 244 screens. (It's really a supporting role to Dakota Fanning's Cherie Currie.) So far, Pattinson is finding it hard to attract fans when he's not in his giant fantasy-film franchise; in Star Wars terms, he's more Mark Hamill than Harrison Ford. That would make Stewart the new Carrie Fisher. If she's to tread Fisher's path, she'd better cultivate a sassy tongue and learn to write clever, withering books about herself...
...this speculation seems somewhat foolish once you've seen the Swedish film adaptation of Dragon Tattoo, subtitled in English and arriving in America this week after storming the European box office. Her name is Noomi Rapace and she owns the part...
Everyone knows a baffling couple like the one that takes shape in Greenberg, Noah Baumbach's defiantly unsettling new film. One half of the couple is a genuinely lovely person. The other seems to have no redeeming qualities whatsoever. You come home from being at a dinner party with them stumped as to why the lovely person hasn't noticed that their spouse or partner is a total stinker. You ponder, maybe for the first time, the term co-dependency. Mostly you wonder how this pair ended up together. (See the top 10 actor-director pairings...
...Geico puts together a video each year to play at the company's annual employees meeting, which was held in February. Geico employees star in the video and film it, and Buffett has taken part in the shoot for the past four years, says Phil Ovuka, director of creative media services at Geico. Buffett played a DJ one year and a hobo another year. This year, Ovuka wanted to push the envelope a little further. "We thought, What's the most ridiculous getup we could think up for Warren - and thought, Nah, we can't do that," says Ovuka...
