Since the recent confession and exhortation of Charles Francis Adams, Jr., the great discussion concerning the study of classics has broadened its scope until we are confronted with the question, what constitutes superficiality in collegiate courses of study? The near approach of a final decision as to what shall be the chosen electives for the ensuing academic year causes the student much unsatisfactory deliberation, while the advice which is ordinarily given at this period is even, if possible, of a still more unsatisfying nature. ...MILE INVITATION RACE-FINAL HEAT.The event of the day was this race. Edgerly withdrew on account of his accident in the previous race, and Norton, Hendee and Frazier took their place at the mark in the order named. Hendee obtained a trifle the best start, and all were off at a tremendous start, and all were off at a tremendous pace. Rowing at best is laborious, and we trust that in the few remaining weeks, after examination, all who can, will visit the boat-house, and by their presence and interest urge on the crews for the final struggle...
Harvard has three games yet to play, two with Dartmouth, which we must consider ourselves sure to win; and the final game with Yale. The importance of this game will depend on the issue of the coming games between the other colleges. If Yale wins all the games that are before her, beating Amherst again, the issue in the Yale-Harvard game will be whether Yale shall hold the championship, or an extra game be necessary. If Amherst wins in all her remaining games, including that with Yale, the Harvard-Yale game will decide wihch nine shall play...
