If you take a multivitamin, you're getting only 30 IUs of vitamin E, and this has long been shown to be a safe amount. And 400 IUs may yet prove to be fine. For complicated statistical reasons, the heart-failure finding could easily be a fluke, the study's coordinating investigator readily admits. What it all boils down to is this: vitamin E probably doesn't prevent heart disease. That doesn't mean it's useless. There is strong evidence from other studies...
