...films presented by the Women's Film Circuit are among the finest feminist films today. They differ tremendously in vantage point, style and statement, but they have one common bond--they are films by women, for women. Hollywood's portrayal of women has always left a lot to be desired. For now, if women want to see a true image of womanhood on film, they'll have to do it alone. And if feminists want to understand themselves and others better, they'd do well to take Woman to Woman's cue and look beyond themselves...

Leonard Bernstein's score is characterized by its eclecticism; complementing the melancholy strains of "Ohio" and the lyricism of "It's Love" are the Latin American rhythms of "Conga," the Irish jig "My Darlin' Eileen" and the jazzy "Swing." While Wonderful Town is no West Side Story, its finest tunes, like "Ohio" and It's Love," are definitely hummable...
...dotage to rave about it. Increasingly, Iolanthe seems to be the favorite work of most Gilbert & Sullivan fanciers. Those who like the gentle, submarine beauty of Sullivan's music claim the best of that is here; others who prefer his loud, brass musical parodies consider the finest of them to be songs like "Bow, bow ye lower middle classes" and "When all night long a chap remains." Those who love the way Gilbert's characters take an inherently silly contradiction and straight-facedly draw it out to a logical conclusion consider the Lord Chancellor the apex of this species...
...course, the male chorus (the House of Lords) marries the female (the Fairies) and--sprouting hilarious mechanical wings--trips off to Fairyland. Along the way, though, are some of the finest scenes Gilbert and Sullivan ever produced, including the Lord Chancellor's nightmare, the best and most complicated patter song Gilbert ever wrote. The trio at the end of Ruddigore ("My eyes are fully open to my awful situation") is faster and perhaps more tongue-twisting; but the Lord Chancellor's song is the Moby Dick of patter songs, the masterpiece all the rest led up to or away from...
While you may be anxious to begin skiing and want to rush out and outfit yourself with Norway's finest, the temptation to buy immediately should be fought...
