...Conn., June 11. Coach Wray devoted most of the time that he spent with the eights today in instructing and drilling them in both ends of the stroke--the catch and the finish. He showed the men how to break the arms into a sharp, driving finish and a quick starting of the recovery. At the catch, he called for a firmer application of power as the weight of the shoulder was put on. In the stretches in which the crews put this coaching into effect, the results were clearly noticeable; the boat ran faster during the recovery, and seemed...

...smooth water were shown in a mile brush with the Freshman eight. Both crews started rowing about 30 strokes to the minute, the university boat jumping into the lead and opening up distance as they went on. The stroke was gradually raised ending at about 36, and at the finish the Freshman crew was about a length astern. MacLure '15 who had run well back the whole way and was hard pressed at the finish by H. W. Smith. Only in the two mile run which R. St.B. Boyd '14 won in 9m., 45 4-5s., did the Harvard distance men justify their reputation. F. W. Copeland '13 and B. S. Carter '15 followed Boyd with Lyman of Yale not far behind...
