...radar tower. It had long been a thorn to the Israelis, and late one night 40 or more Israeli naval commandos set off on the two-mile trip to the island. Silently, they scaled the walls, killed the sentries and then, after a brief but vicious firefight that cost at least six Israeli dead, blew up all the artillery and fire-control installations within the fortress. Shortly after they withdrew, Egyptians on the far shore opened a two-hour artillery barrage on the island, evidently acting in the belief that the Israelis meant to hold the fortress for some time...

Crossing south of Great Bitter Lake, they met an Israeli patrol, and in a three-hour firefight near Suez, four Israelis and one Egyptian were wounded. In an other raid, south of El Qantara, the Egyptians unsuccessfully stormed an Israeli army post, losing three men (Egypt claimed 22 Israelis killed). While Israeli and Jordanian troops traded fire in daily duels across the muddy Jordan River, Israeli Premier Levi Eshkol observed ominously that "any form of war and incitement to war will oblige us to repel, deter, and take the battle to the enemies' gates and beyond." That might mean...

Since the Chinese invaded India through the passes in 1962, the border has been comparatively quiet. The most recent major firefight occurred last September. At such strategic spots as the 14,140-ft. Natu Pass, linking the Indian protectorate of Sikkim to Chinese-held Tibet, the two sides are literally at bayonet point, patrolling within sight and sound of each other on opposite sides of a single strand of wire. Asian-style politesse prevails in the low-key propaganda war at Natu Pass. Indian loudspeakers kick off daily with news and propaganda in Mandarin Chinese...
