Because the work of all these men is very well known, the Whitney Museum went to great pains to see that the pictures and drawings honoring them should be comparatively new to the Manhattan art world. But as proprietor of big, flashy Jack Dempsey's Restaurant, across the street from Madison Square Garden, he had, according to the courtroom story of a State prosecutor, encountered an enemy more formidable than any Firpo or Tunney.
