Bing and Callas sparred continually over her roles and her schedules. In 1959, after she refused to sing Traviata and Macbeth in the same week, Bing fired her. Callas snarled publicly about "those lousy Traviatas that he wanted me to do." Bing riposted: "Mme. Callas is constitutionally unable to fit into any organization not tailored to her own personality." By 1965 almost all was forgiven. Bing brought her back for two Toscas. Justly they became the hottest tickets of the season, for Callas' Tosca was revelatory, not so much a posturing, jealous bitch, as a woman unsettled by fear...
Keaton regularly does acting exercises, one of which involves finding a way to key her concentration so that she feels completely alone. If she has kept herself fit with the exercises, she finds she can program and hold an emotion through the endless technical annoyances of film making. Most of the time this worked in Goodbar, but not always. Once, Brooks remembers, he wanted a look of pleasurable anticipation to cross her face as she came out of a bathroom and approached a man who lay in bed. Keaton tried it a couple of times, but came up empty...
Once upon a time, sectioning for classes was quite an adventure. Teaching fellows roaming through crowded lecture halls handed out sectioning forms, and students spent the good part of a lecture ranking about a dozen times that fit into their schedules...

Kirkland House is dong The Fantastiks, that longest running of musicals where the characters, a boy and girl who live next door, look far and wide for love only to conclude that there's no place like home. Lowell will probably be producing A Thousand Clowns, that irrepressible story about a non-conformist who hates to work but does it anyway in order to retain custody of the nephew he loves...
...theatre, however, and the less impressive men fill half the cast and almost half the script. The fault lies mainly with the script, for the male parts are mostly restricted to humorous numbers which belittle but do not develop character. The men fade into the background, unable to fit the roles of strength and love the women desire for them...
