Those were the main findings of an eight-member presidential commission headed by Vice President Nelson Rockefeller after a five-month investigation involving 2,900 pages of documents and testimony from 51 witnesses. Released last week by President Gerald Ford, the commission's 299-page report emphasized that "the great majority of the CIA's domestic activities comply with its statutory authority." But the panel found that on numerous occasions, the CIA has violated its charter, which restricts it for the most part to foreign operations. Congress originally set up the agency in 1947 to gather foreign intelligence...
First Concern. Since last August, the month that he took office, the number of people out of work has increased more rapidly than in any other five-month period on record. It seemed hardly credible that only 15 months ago the unemployment rate stood at a reasonably tolerable 4.6%. The news that it had cracked 8%, and added a few points for good measure, was enough to stir yet another political uproar and add fierceness to the battle already being waged over Ford's first budget. To combat the worsening economic problem, President Ford at week's end signed legislation appropriating $4.5 billion for unemployment...

One of the Beautiful People, Manhattan's Suzie Frankfurt, a designer-collector, returned recently from a five-month tour of the Far East with her two young sons, examined the exchequer and decided that drastic measures would have to be taken if the family were not to resort to, well, frankfurters...
...Star game that is big-league baseball's midsummer breather will not yet have taken place. But no matter. Come July 10, the pro-football season is going to start. On that date the new World Football League will make its debut in five cities, beginning a five-month season of midweek games. That odd, extended schedule will not be the league's only novelty. Determined to upstage the N.F.L., the W.F.L. will offer everything from singular team names (among them the Chicago Fire and the Southern California Sun) to sudden death overtime, two-point conversions and other...
