The idea is simple and effective, and extraordinarily well filmed; the initial shot of the rebel, THX 1138 4EB, running toward the camera of a closed-circuit television instantly evokes a gut empathetic reaction, and the color and opticals (dissolves mostly) are employed with flair and discipline. If it all seems insubstantial when it's over, at least Lucas has made a valid stylistic exercise from a serviceable cinematic premise...

It was only in the Britten, where Miss Wilsen did not have to struggle with a less-than-familiar language, that her performance got off the ground and even ended the program with a lively, humorous flair. All in all it was an admirable maiden recital and I am sure those who were there look forward to hearing from Miss Wilsen again...
