...problems of any amateur dance production. The dancers are a little unsure on their feet, and as they finish steps, they jerk to regain their balance. This flaw in technique is especially obvious in Eric Lessinger's "Moment Mechanique"--itself an unoriginal interpretation of Shostakovich's metallic music. The three dancers click about the stage doll-like in a dance that should be tight and disturbing but is simply dull...

Strong Resemblance. The main flaw in this heroic story is that Nguyen Van Be is alive and in a South Vietnamese jail. When he was captured ten months ago, he was taken to a jail in the delta town of My Tho (there were no prisoner-of-war camps in the region at the time). Recently, an alert South Vietnamese policeman noticed the strong resemblance between the jumbo photos of Be in the Hanoi press and a rather withdrawn Viet Cong prisoner in a corner cell. Some prosecutors announce indictments with unforgettable declarations of guilt. Defense lawyers then counter with vivid rebuttals-all of which may be read...

...consistent tone can be imparted to a play that juxtaposes the somber drum roll of the Kennedy funeral cortege with such inane Shakespearean mutations as "Oh whine and pout/ That ever I was born to bury doubt." But MacBird's basic flaw is that Playwright Garson is a frivolous, scattershot satirist who has no moral vision of her own to counterpose whatever might be regarded as evil in her characters. She has written an apolitical play in which all choices seem silly. The Ken O'Duncs are presented as chilly, ruthless opportunists; MacBird is a mixture of corn...
