...Many had felt queasy about trusting someone under 30, but were reassured by Atkins' plush, marble-floored offices at 500 Park Avenue, his impeccable grooming and the fact that his father was a well-known oil executive. The Tisches say they went along because their lawyers could find no flaw in the prospectuses. In total, Atkins attracted investments of $36.8 million from 400 investors. If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 86 years in prison...
...sure that there was some plate flaw on it," Shelton says, "but it was no flaw." He walked outside, looked up at the Large Magellanic Cloud and, without a telescope or binoculars, clearly saw the exploding star, or supernova. While hundreds of supernovas occurring in incredibly distant galaxies have been spotted by powerful telescopes, this was the first one visible to the naked eye since 1885. More important, at a distance of only 170,000 light-years, it was the brightest one to appear in terrestrial skies since...
...second flaw in the argument is that all convictions require two basic criteria to be satisfied--criminal action and criminal intent. Even if it is proven that the Administration did divert the funds, it appears that President Reagan had no intent to do so. Now this, admitedly, is a problem in itself. Now, Hogan is an affable looking chap and the ad showed promise so I checked out the brew. I found, however, a serious flaw with Foster's in the size of the can. No matter how good the first two-thirds of any Foster's, it takes the better part of a day to reach the room-temperature dregs. So I nixed Australia...
While the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's vote to cut off aid to the contras is a positive step, the resolution it passed, sponsored by Senators Christopher Dodd (D-CT) and Lowell Weicker (R-CT), nonetheless perpetuates a fundamental flaw in the United States' Central American policy. The Dodd-Weicker resolution would eliminate the contra's final $40 million aid installment, allocate money to remove the contras from Honduras, and contribute funds to the Contadora negotiation group. However, Dodd-Weicker would also reinstate $300 million in economic aid--with no human rights guidelines attached--to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras...
