...years ago Adolf Hitler flew to Venice to clasp hands with Benito Mussolini. After a vegetarian lunch and a heart-to-heart the two Dictators found no matter of importance on which they could then cooperate. Meanwhile, Il Duce had conceived the project of making Italy, Britain, Germany and France the dominating hierarchy of Europe. These nations actually signed his Four-Power Pact only to quarrel over the Ethiopian war and Der Führer's tearing up of the Treaty of Versailles. With 60,000 Rexists already in Brussels the air of the Capital was grim on Sunday. Armed police and cavalry lurked down every side street. After service at St. Gudule's Cathedral, emerging adherents of Christus Rex jampacked the Cathedral Square. Suddenly a window flew open and Rexist Degrelle made what he called a "Proclamation." Unfurled were two huge Rexist flags showing "the Black Crown of Christ the King" on a red field. The crowd roared "Rex will conquer! Long live Degrelle!" Its take-off for Stockholm was constantly postponed, apparently because the pair were finicky about the weather. This did not bother Baroness Blixen-Finecke. The blonde noblewoman was having so much fun partying on Long Island that she could not find time...
...ailerons, he could understand why the War Office had almost turned him down at first glance. For the airplanes at that stage of the War -the Avros, Moranes, Bristol Bullets, DH 4's-were designed with little thought for the comfort or convenience of the men who flew them. Like the prehistoric pterodactyl, which they somewhat resembled in appearance, most of these types are extinct now, were being supplanted before the War was over. Gaunt, unstable contraptions, held together with piano wire (the pilots used to say that canaries could be caged in their rigging) most of them rose...
