Surprise--the hyberbole is more or less borne out. Those in the mood for "White" probably won't appreciate this hard-driving flick. But those feeling like a thrill, a chase or even just a diversion will enjoy "Speed." That includes many who don't usually like action movies. If you haven't gone to see it already, head over to the nearest theater and catch it on your next free night. Besides all else, it's a movie you have to see to stay in touch with the current American culture...
...defy comparison to any American sporting event. The national pride of the competing sides is at stake. Coaches and players who lose key matches frequently retire just hours afterwards. Sadly, people are killed for their mistakes on the field. And those who succeed become national heroes forever with a flick of an ankle...
Well, let me tell you a thing or two about Hollywood. I can, because I worked in that industry for 11 years. Even to get a "formulaic, manipulative flick" off the ground is next to impossible. "Did it ever occur to you that Alek might not have the professional choices or artistic control you presume he does? How much do you know about that industry anyway? Not much, I'd judge. At least Alek's creative endeavors are not limited to criticizing and diminishing other people such as yours...
Harvard has faced no deeper dishonor than that abominable piece of sappy drech, Alek P. Keshishian '86's ineptly titled movie, "With Honors." The only honor that this so-called film could compete for is that of the sappiest Harvard-related flick, a title currently held by the laughable "Love Story." Why is it that anytime a Harvard alum tries to pull off a heart-warming story about his alma mater, the result is, shall we say, less than inspiring? Perhaps because behind these ivy-clad walls, nothing interesting enough goes on to carry a halfway interesting movie...
...typical response when things get bad is to flick on Letterman (or, heaven forbid, Conan O'Brien...
