...Storm. Yet his latest project, Ride With the Devil, based on Daniel Woodrell's novel Woe to Live On, reflects the damage too much praise can have on a director. All that distinguishes Ride with the Devil as anything other than a glorified action flick is a splattering of historical nuances and the occasional flirtation with character complexity...
Hollywood didn't want to be left out, so filmmakers green-lighted Good Will Hunting, in which Matt Damon, who does watch TV, makes it sexy to be a number cruncher. (The sexy image was reversed--for the few bohemians who saw it--by the 1998 art-house flick [pi], the story of a psychotic, self-mutilating mathematician who discovers a very big number that holds the secrets of the universe.) It almost seems as though James Bond himself is set at odds with his style of movie-making. 007 is a man of simple pleasures and simple motivations; get the girl, save the world. Sure, he uses expensive gadgets and blows...
...about the parents? You made it seem as if we don't exist. Parent participation is very visible. A few of the stories talked about the Webster school I know. The rest seemed like just trying to find dirt. You lost who and what Webster is all about. CARRIE FLICK Webster Groves...
