...Yanowsky's Dracula is terrifying by any measure. His streaked hair, deep-set eyes and imperious manner could cause any 12-old to have nightmares. And his wings constitute one of the most amazing costuming feats I've ever seen--24 of patterned velvet that swoop with the slightest flick of Yanowsky's wrist, revealing an interior lined with crimson brocade. Maybe itis because his wings are so majestic, but Yanowsky seems unable to move beyond manipulating his wings. His Dracula elicits terror and fear but ultimately fails to realize his narrative and lyrical potential...

...away. Admit it, if you were a studio executive in the '70s, you would probably have turned down Star Wars. A farmboy from another galaxy leaves home to fight an evil empire and save a beautiful princess? On paper at least, it sounds like a high-budget kiddie flick. And, in effect, thats what itreally is. No one but a bunch of pre-pubescent boys and perhaps a handful of adults who just refused to grow up would want to see it, or so the reasoning of the times went...
FIGHT SIMULATORS Although they are pure combat, martial-arts programs like TEKKEN 3 and VIRTUA FIGHTER seem less violent and a lot less cowardly than the games that let players hide behind their guns. The TEKKEN series has all the choreographed beauty of a Hong Kong action flick and hardly any virtual blood. There are probably worse ways to let off steam...
...just hope that for his next Flick, he gives us a hero we can root for. Look for an interview with Election scribe Tom Perrotta in next week's Arts section...
