...altered to heighten some of the film's sparse humorous moments, as Coppola has added one scene with Marlon Brando, as well as included scenes with Playboy Playmates. The August 15th release coincides with the 22nd anniversary of the film's original theatrical run. Fans of the original will flock to see another act of potentially destructive Coppola hubris, but the rest will leave it alone. An already brilliant film made better? Here's hoping...
...Lausanne is a hilly town and the harbor, called Ouchy, lies at its foot. On sunny days locals flock here to stroll along the lake the Swiss know as Lac Léman. From here a 20-minute walk takes you to Vidy, a vast park with a smaller harbor. There's a chorus line of old ladies with walkers, a flock of pigeons doing the Nazi salute and more gay jokes than have crossed a stage since Liberace. The show delivers such a wealth of vaudeville exuberance that the few quibbles (a rather lumpy second act) are likely to fade away. Even if you don't think it's great entertainment...
