...Frank, he lasted out the early days of the Depression on hustle and odd jobs, then began singing his own songs for his supper at an East Side night spot. That led to the Broadway revue, The Illustrators (1936), for which he wrote five songs. The show was a flop, but it earned him a Hollywood offer. With Hoagy Carmichael, he wrote Small Fry for Bing Crosby and Two Sleepy People for Bob Hope.
