...allow us to correct but two misstatements. The first is that "facilities for transportation in Sicily are about three hundred years behind" those of any other civilized country. We personally know that the railway between Syracuse and Messina is fully as good as any in Southern Europe; while the Florio steamers which ply along the Sicilian coast are decidedly the best, as far as accommodation and table go, that we have found upon the Mediterranean.
