Finally Jesuit LeBuffe paid his respects to novenas-the Catholic act of faith which the devout spend nine days performing, usually saying numerous prayers in honor of a saint or a feast day. Said he: "Now I carry a medal of the Little Flower with me and pray to her daily, but I am not sure I'd die for a novena to the Little Flower. There is too much Novena-itis, too many spiritual lollypops in presentday religion. I favor novenas, of course, but I do not believe that God is ultimately going to save us by numbers...

...self-assuredly as though potent international conferences were an everyday occurrence, Mayor Schranz of 5,000-soul Nyon welcomed conferees on "piracy" in the Mediterranean to an E-shaped table in his flower-filled municipal assembly hall, remarking that some Swiss rivers empty into the Inland Sea. Nine nations were represented-Britain, France, Russia, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Greece, Rumania, Bulgaria, Egypt-and they were there to do something about the submarines that since the middle of August have preyed on neutral shipping attempting to run food, munitions and principally oil into Leftist Spanish ports. Muni is dreamy, sensitive, unpractical. When he bought a ranch in San Fernando Valley he mistook the irrigation stand-pipes for flower pots and planted geraniums in them. When the water was turned on, the geraniums flew into the air. He sold the ranch last spring for a hilltop home in Palos Verde, where he swims in his pool, plays with his dog and looks through a telescope at ships on the Pacific. He is never seen in Hollywood nightspots and takes no part in actors' disputes. He attended the mass meeting of the Screen Actors Guild last...
