Hamel's direction is skillful. Aside from occasionally awkward and distracting blocking, his staging is fluid. He trusts the script enough to allow actors to remain still on stage, letting the power of Cocteau's ideas hold our interest. Hamel should also receive the credit for an inspired set design, which beautifully highlights what Cocteau called the "false classicism" of this play set in the 19th century...

...Saturn is as durable, but I have driven the Civic and my impression is that the Saturn's performance, handling and amenities all measure up to its Japanese rival. The Saturns have been designed for easy servicing too, right down to the transparent, easy-to-read fluid reservoirs under the hood and the clearly labeled fuse boxes and dipsticks. Someone at Saturn has been doing a lot of thinking about what the buyer wants, and that's some of the best news out of Detroit in a long time...

...More fluid dialogue and sharper editing would have greatly aided this production, as would the introduction of transitional scenes to add coherence. We should not be left in darkness for several minutes while the actors struggle to reposition furniture for the next scene. And the dialogue Burton gives her Japanese characters sounds fake when translated into idiomatic English...
