...human fabric. But that exhibition involved scores of photographers. Arthus-Bertrand spearheads his own effort, though even his most delicate images require something like a paramilitary operation--his team now totals 15--to handle planning and logistics. Some nations, like Saudi Arabia and China, have yet to give him flyover permission. "One problem with doing aerial photography," he explains dryly, "is that people think...

...film opens with a sound-tracked, slo-mo Vicky (Shu Qi) striding across a flyover at night, with the camera at her back. Time enough for her to tell us in narration that she frequently breaks up with Hao-hao, but he always tracks her down. He begs her to come back and, as if hypnotized, she always returns. NASA is returning to its aviation roots. The space agency revealed its plan for Mars this week, and it features... a plane. The Martian flyover in a yet-to-be-designed unmanned plane is scheduled for 2003 -- fittingly, the 100th anniversary of the first Wright brothers flight. Communications breakdowns led to last month's downing of Captain Scott O'Grady's F-16 over Bosnia, according to a Pentagon report. The report says intelligence photos revealed four hours before the plane was hit that Serb SA-6 missile battery had moved into the flyover area. Just minutes before impact, an American U-2 plane detected a brief burst of radar from the battery, revealing its position. But a command plane lacking crucial communications gear was unable to relay the message to O'Grady. Pentagon officials will present the report to Congress tomorrow...
