POLYURETHANE CAVE. Several Manhattan designers have an answer for those who literally want to return to the simplicity of the cave. They spray polyurethane foam over wire, burlap and wood forms-or even balloons -strategically placed in a room. Within a day, the stuff hardens into a tough, mildew-proof mass with planned recesses and protrusions that take the place of furniture. The corners of windows are filled in, leaving a rounded opening, and the sills are comfortably padded. The total effect, say those who live in the caves, is like a womb with a view...
...keys and lead wine labels forms a witty collage of "medals"-a spoof on Allner's many legitimate art prizes. Other elegant murals and sculptures turn out, on inspection, to be composed of Styrofoam egg cartons and packing materials that Allner particularly admires. "Besides," he wryly adds, "the foam looks better than the cracked plaster behind...

Sontag maintains the expectation of comprehension through our hopes for the sympathetic characters' efforts to find out just what the Bauers' "game" is. But epiphany never occurs; the film offers no knowledgeable scientist who has the secrets of vampires...
...three administrative aides, who decided to escape the pressure. But the irrepressible Kissinger can readily joke about his reputation as a ruthless boss. Says he of his overworked staff: "The circles under the eyes don't bother me. It's only when I see the flecks of foam at the corners of the mouth that I worry...
...dizzying array of skins-from the wood and metal favored by kit manufacturers to brick, stone, cement and plastic. Kahn has experimented with domes of plywood walls insulated with nitrogen-filled vinyl pillows, aluminum frames covered with Plexiglas, and wood covered with burlap then sprayed with quick-hardening plastic foam. Perhaps the most interesting new project is one involving the use of Mylar plastic film coated so that one side reflects light while the other is transparent. Outsiders thus see only an opaque dome, but those inside have an unobstructed view of the world...
