...Chevrolet set/ Our steak and martini/ Is draft beer with weenie"*). She sat on the plush blue antique sofa, hair poufed out to here, with nails, makeup and outfit perfectly coordinated. She looked like a lotus blossom sitting next to George Jones, a perfect foil, but completely herself. It was the most relaxed I was ever to see her. Tammy was sweet, in the way that only Southern women are sweet, and a bundle of nerves. I don't ever think she got over her ascendancy from the beauty parlor. ...gone into a state-of-the-art laboratory to concoct the ideal judge to lighten his troubles, Clinton could not have conjured a better foil than Susan Webber Wright. Only a female Republican, Bush-appointed, generally unfriendly jurist could provide such a politically and legally sweet ruling. A Democrat, foreseeing the firestorm, probably wouldn't have had the guts to do it. ...movie is all about the aging of a southern belle, a shrinking violet turned black widow at the threat of replacement. The revenge of Scarlett, with the necessary homage to Freud. The film even goes out of its way to give an example of a foil to Jessica Lange's character, Martha. The good belle, played to perfection by Schaech's grandmother (played by Nina Foch) gives a wonderfully spirited performance. She delivers the best one-liners and has the venom befitting a woman on the side of the good and the righteous, the legitimate...
