...Advocate's stable. Editor James Manchester Robinson hasn't shortened his name by a syllable; but his judgment, or perhaps the material on hand, leapt far and handsomely (if you neglect his continued pre-occupation with poetry as a graphic device, so garishly splashed across the center-fold). Sandy Kaye, Arthur Freeman and Stephen Sandy contribute good stuff...
...Song is no accident, for Rodgers and Hammerstein themselves have reached an almost Oriental serenity in an otherwise hectic and often squalid business. As much as any of their Chinese characters, R. & H. have family feeling. Since they have a permanent production outfit (unlike most other theater men, who fold up after each show), they have given employment to generations of performers. Example: one of Flower Drum's brightest young dancers, Patrick Adiarte, 15, started at eight as one of the younger children in The King and I, kept on playing the parts of older boys as he grew...
...other man dominated the world's news more, albeit to the disgust of free men and nations, than this sly, scheming, abusive, arrogant, warmongering, vodka-guzzling Soviet Premier. It sorts the bills, tots them up, prepares the bills for the customer, registers the return payments. Macy's may even...
...greatest increase in radioactivity is in tea. In prenuclear days, tea was virtually radiation-free. Now its radioactivity has gone up an average of 30-fold, and in some samples more than 100-fold. As expected, teas from South America and Africa show the least increase (the whole Southern Hemisphere has markedly less fallout than the Northern). Teas from China, Formosa and Japan may easily reflect mainly the fallout from Soviet bomb tests. Those from India and Ceylon can apparently only reflect the pooled fallout from Siberia, the Pacific islands and Nevada, which has gone around the world. Two reasons...
