...friends" again after Amy has an affair with her libertine half sister Blanche. A mysterious stranger appears and reappears. Amy begins to act strange, as if she possesses some important secret. Edward begins to spot possible hints of new infidelity everywhere-in a faint whiff of cigarette smoke, a footprint, a random passage from a book...
...power tipsyness, for the U.S. is a nation strong enough to keep its own wars thousands of miles off American shores, and fight them essentially by proxy. Angola today is a superpower war, that won't melt away just because one side denies the reality of its own colossal footprint in the mire. Fifteen thousand Cubans remain in Angola because the U.S. will take no initiative in pressing the Soviet Union for them to leave. And even America's left has been essentially indifferent to the real issue of African liberation throughout the anti-colonial struggle. Bereft of constructive ideas...
...Footprint Trail. In his opening statement to the jury of seven women and five men (including nine blacks), Prosecutor Jon A. Sale charged that Connally had not only accepted but had actually solicited the money from Lawyer Jake Jacobsen, who was a go-between for the Associated Milk Producers Inc., the nation's largest dairy cooperative. Napier claims he can explain in terms of other animals all but one footprint attributed to the Himalayan yeti, the original Abominable Snowman. Most Bigfoot prints, on the other hand, are still a mystery...
...Landlord is the first film by Hal Ashby, a former film editor for Director Norman Jewison. Ashby seems to have picked up Jewison's stylistic slickness, which is stamped all over the movie like a muddy footprint. One Landlord love scene consists of almost nothing but enormous closeups of lips and hands against a glaring white background. Ashby and Scenarist William Gunn make things easy on themselves throughout by portraying the tenants as a group of whimsical, life-loving characters out of The Time of Your Life; Elgar's snooty family is caricatured with pig-bladder subtlety...
