...gloriously raw, relevant and, most importantly, rocking. Plant is the first to admit that he has "wasted a lot of time." In the 1980s, he desperately tried to distance himself from the Zeppelin legend - and unfortunately succeeded, churning out album after forgettable album of turgid, synth-heavy pop. A foray into R&B covers with a band called The Honeydrippers brought him some commercial success, but little creative joy. In the mid-'90s, he reunited with Page. The Tories are led by Michael Howard, a veteran Thatcherite brought in from the pasture for a last fling. He has chosen to run a campaign that is, by turns, ugly and inane. A prominent Tory told me that Howard is a great believer in the voodoo cooked up by political consultants and has decided to build his campaign around five issues that floated to the surface in focus groups. They are predictably anodyne...

...selling iron ore to China for three decades. It has vast interests in the Pilbara, including nine mines and three ports. Through its subsidiary Hamersley Iron, Rio Tinto has a joint venture with Chinese steel producers in two mines, Channar and Eastern Ranges. The Channar partnership (China's first foray into foreign mine investment) began in 1987. Major new port, mine and rail projects will increase the company's production capacity to 170 million tons by next year. "We are running flat out, going as hard as we can," says Sam Walsh, who heads Rio Tinto's iron ore group...
