...moral law. Parents need to be involved in a dialogue with their son. They need to fill the role of intellectual midwife: engage them in a conversation where the rules, the laws, what's right and what's wrong are talked about and not imposed. Sometimes parents have to forbid. But that doesn't mean the forbidding should happen in the absence of a dialogue...

...Finally, this decision could have a net negative effect on gay rights. Currently, the California constitution does not mention gay marriage, either to forbid or require its recognition. ...course, there is no reason we have to follow an appealing principle off a cliff. We can have a bit of genetic justice without much risk of tumbling into Stalinism. The same politicians who voted last week to forbid genetic discrimination, because they apparently believe you should not gain any advantage or suffer any disadvantage as a result of the genes you inherit from your parents, have also voted to abolish the estate tax, because they apparently believe there should be no limit whatsoever on how much money you can inherit. Go figure...
