From my experiences as a resident tutor in Dunster House, my association with Mather House and in teaching undergraduate courses, loneliness seems to be an enormous problem at Harvard and Radcliffe. There are many opportunities to meet people here--foremost at meals in the co-ed Houses, in organizations like the Collegium Musicum, the Harvard Gilbert and Sullivand Players, The Crimson and Lampoon, and Harvard and Radcliffe Hillel and the Catholic Student Center. As an undergraduate myself, I participated in many activities, yet was so insecure and shy that I hardly ever dated. I felt at the time that...
...respect of women and all students. But while the content of the message is admirable, its timing is not. Under considerable pressure in 1977 to merge with Harvard, Radcliffe administrators held out for independent status, claiming that women at Harvard would continue to need an organization committed first and foremost to their needs. Horner, who was instrumental in negotiating the agreement that preserved a Radcliffe College, has consistently maintained that her college continues to serve women students by safeguarding their interests against encroachments, or simple disinterest, of the Harvard administration. The incident proves disastrous: after Tucker discovers a letter from an old lover of Barclay's, the novelist's wife leaves him. The scene also gives Golding the chance to satirize culture-vultures. When Barclay expresses his anger, Tucker, "out of the depths of his reverent absurdity," says "'I understand...

We must become determined, he believes, to rid the world of unclear weapons eventually it will probably not happen in our lifetime, but we must maintain belief that at is possible and worth the battle. Hope must be our foremost tool...
...abuses of harassment complaints cannot be dismissed entirely, to regard such a threat as the rule, not the exception, is absurd. Last fall's survey indicated that even students or faculty members who had suffered egregious harassment tended to be reluctant to report the incidents. Clearly the University's foremost concern must be to encourage reporting--not to discourage...
