Usage:

Much can be forgiven a new magazine, and there is very little in the Boston Review that needs forgiving. Exposure to the rather shrill editorial introduction and the back cover ("The Boston Review is on the MOVE... Hasta la vista, sista) suggests that magazines should either say a great deal about themselves or very little; BR hasn't yet chosen between tendenz and taciturnity. And Ferg...

...hard to imagine that a play called The Fainted Horse would have much of a box-office draw, but if the box office is in Paris and the playwright is Franchise Sagan, the title can be forgiven. The play, in fact, is Paris' biggest hit, and has precipitated a brand-new love affair between France and the eternally precocious Sagan...

...place in the A.F.L.'s eastern division. Coach Ewbank, who is so preoccupied with football that he says he reads nothing but sport pages ("If I see Great Lakes Naval Training Station ranked among the top teams, I know we're at war"), has not yet quite forgiven Baltimore for firing him after he had led the Colts to two National Football League titles. He frankly admits to one grand ambition for the legionnaires. Now that the A.F.L. and N.F.L. have agreed to merge, the best teams in both leagues will play off for the world championship next...

...Reporter Drury (who used to work for the New York Times) this time has heated up a special groin iron for political pundits. The central character here is a columnist named Walter Dobius ("Walter Wonderful"). And though Dobius may not resemble any single real-life oracle, readers can be forgiven if they detect a little bit of Walter Lippmann, a little bit of Scotty Reston, and a dash of Joe Alsop...

...that the Orioles usually can hope for is to be remembered in September. They have not won a big-league pennant since 1896; they are the team that Mighty Casey struck out for; and they peddled Babe Ruth away for $2,900. Still, all those past transgressions will be forgiven this year, unless the Orioles find some curious new way to commit suicide. Last week, slightly past the halfway point of the 1966 season, they were leading the American League by a full seven games...
