Weezer, the mid 90s staple in alternateen garage rock, has returned in its alter-ego form, The Rentals, and this time the results are promising. In Seven More Minutes, headman Matt Sharp convincingly demonstrates a wealth of creativity and originality underutilized in his subdued role as bassist and back-up vocalist for Weezer. The Rentals' first album, a minimally successful self-titled release, contained the primordial elements of electronically influenced guitar rock in the radio hits "Friends of P." and "Move On" that are fully realized here. Last Sunday, the computer virus Chernobyl disabled the hard drives of computers across the Campus, preventing access to everything from theses to lowly expos papers. Those who lacked sufficient protection in the form of anti-viral programs had to suffer both the loss of countless hours as they attempted to restore their papers and the supercilious comments of their peers. ...Identity crisis only worsened two years ago when the op-Arts were removed from FM to form the separate "Arts" section. "What now?" thought the magazine editors. And thus Fifteen Minutes, sans arts section, tumbled into confusion. Who are we, where are we going? Various theories surfaced. Some editors thought that "Fifteen Minutes" should be about popular culture with kitschy visuals and copy. Others took the Warhol reference more literally and sprinkled the magazine with Campbell's soup cans. Recent magazine executives interpreted the title at face value--a quarter hour--and brought a chronological theme to the magazine...
