Keaton excels at this type of frenzied, over-the-top comedy, and he's at his best when two or three of his manifestations volley the dialogue back and forth between them. Unfortunately, this does leave McDowell somewhat out of the loop; she's given the thankless role of the confused wife, struggling, crying and finally running away while Doug clumsily deals with his strange identity crisis...

Since these issues are standard--wild father, overcompensatingly strict son, and day-dreaming third generation--these sub-plots are more valuable for the amusing ironies that come forth. For example, Otis keeps a back-shed museum of black Seminole artifacts and doesn't fail to point out to Delmore's son, who stumbles in, that it was the Delmore's beloved Army that drove these Native Americans west and away...
