Peace. As forecast (TIME, Sept, 12) peace was the main topic of discussion in the Assembly deliberations. The speeches of the week, however, resolved themselves into long-winded bursts of impotent oratory, no matter how brilliant and forceful they may be viewed from a literary standpoint. Poland brought forward a plan: 1) Any recourse to war in order to settle international disputes is and remains forbidden. 2) Every dispute of whatever nature arising between states or nations cannot be settled except by pacific means. In consequence, the Assembly urges members of the League to take action on these declarations...

...machine, two arms reach out and gather in the spreading branches of the cotton bushes. Two vertical, revolving cylinders spined with close-set spindles, brush along the branches gently. The cylinders slide backwards horizontally on their bases at the same speed as the whole machine is moving forward. This saves the branches from being torn off the bushes. By the time the cylinders reach the end of the backward slide, their spindles have finished the task of combing all loose fibres off the branches and out of opened bolls. The branches are released. ...yacht was backing away from her wharf in Sydney, Nova Scotia, early one morning last week. Suddenly her superstructure, just forward of her one funnel, shook and belched with the flames of a violent explosion. An engineer staggered on deck, his face broiled, clothes hanging in sooty tatters. The fire, racing aft, drove two half-dressed women out of their cabin.
