During the past week special attention has been given to developing the forward pass and the onside kick, with the result that in the last scrimmage, which occurred on Thursday, the University eleven worked 13 out of 15 of these plays with the greatest success. Much time has also been spent in teaching the men how to prevent the successful use of these two plays by opponents. In the game today Captain Foster will fill the position of left halfback, and for this reason the secondary defense should be much stronger than it was in the Brown game a week...
...game with Carlisle on Saturday. As the scrimmage on Tuesday was very satisfactory, the men were not required to go through another hard period of play yesterday, the time being devoted instead to signal practice. While the second eleven was running through signals and doing some work on the forward pass, Inches, Peirce, and Robinson, under the direction of Coach Cutts, practiced charging and catching the ball on the run. The ends were given a chance to run down under punts in order to develop their speed, Coach Reid doing the kicking. The West Point game and the Brown game...
...signal practice of the University eleven, against the second team, lasting over half an hour, was the most important feature of yesterday's work. All sorts of plays were tried, including the forward pass and straight line bucks. On the whole the work was excellent, for the men showed a great deal of life in their actions and generally knew what was required of them. Hall ran the eleven well, and Starr showed very good form at end, seldom missing the ball on passes...
...HAVEN, CONN., Nov. 7--In a thirty-minute scrimmage this afternoon the University team scored twice on the second. The defence of the university eleven was weak, and the second gained consistently by centre plays. No forward passes were tried and line pushes and on side kicks were the principal plays used. There was considerable fumbling by both teams, and a strong wind prevented any effective punting. Biglow, Erwin, Brides and Alcott were given a rest today. The following coaches were on the field: Camp, Owsley, Forguson, Fly, Metealf, Thorne, Hinkey, Hoyt, Rockwell. The line-up of the university team...
...preliminary work was very short, consisting principally of signal practice in which the forward pass was the main feature. The entire squad was given a few minutes practice in quick starting. Parker tried several field goals, and also received some individual instruction from Coach Reid in passing the ball. Newhall was given a day's rest...
