Considering the fact that it was the Freshmen's first game, and that after only ten days of practice, the result is very encouraging. Fumbling was in evidence on both sides, and was the direct cause of Harvard's touchdown. The score came after three or four minutes of play in the first half. President Eliot pointed out that our Graduate School of Arts and Sciences was established four years before that at Johns Hopkins University; but the degree of Doctor of Philosophy was first offered by examination to students of the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale.
