Rotund, white-bearded Dr. Shull, who looks like Santa Claus, does not feel gypped at having received no royalties so long as he is recognized as the Santa Claus of hybrid corn. But he remarked last week that if he had received the merest fraction of 1? an acre, he would have been able to set up an independent department of botany at Princeton. ...temporary "war-chest" voted by the Corporation for the present year has merely postponed the Council's fate. With an annual schedule of fifty debates, its expenses total about $200, only a fraction of which can be raised by the newly-instituted membership dues. Unless some way of obtaining funds is found, the Council will be obliged to shut up shop next year--leaving the Coolidge prizes to be awarded to the best debaters on a nonexistent team...

...Only a fraction of the total U. S. crab catch is canned; most of it is sold iced or half-cooked, is so perishable that it can not be shipped very far inland. Until the Fellers discovery, the only domestic crab-meat inland regions could get, was from dungeness (West Coast) crabs, which last year were 95% of the U. S. canned pack of 648,000 pounds. Significant, therefore, is the Blue Channel Corp.'s process, because it offers a new source to satisfy the U. S. appetite for crabmeat, which far exceeds the domestic supply...
