Died. Marshal Antonio Oscar de Fragoso Carmona, 81, Portugal's President since 1926; of uremia; in Lisbon. After 40 years in the army, he decided the Portuguese were incapable of governing themselves, had some evidence: 18 revolutions between 1910, when the last King gave up everything for an actress, and 192-6, when Carmona himself took over after a successful coup.
