...Ananda was designated constitutional monarch in 1935 by Siam's Strong Man, Premier and Army Chief Colonel Phya Phahol Pholphayuha Sena, when King Ananda's uncle, childless King Prajadhipok, abdicated. King Ananda Mahidol was allowed to remain in Switzerland to complete his schooling and build up his frail physique, thought unfitted for the wet May-to-October monsoon of Siam. Few months ago Strong Man Phya Phahol "suggested" that King Ananda return to his kingdom at least for a visit...

...Hastings, and the Music Building--a truly blood-chilling panorama. Behind him lie the gray Azores of Phillips Brooks House and the quiet harbors of the Yard. But, Columbus-like, the Vagabond pushes on into the unfamiliar waters ahead. Tacking unskillfully along the North Cambridge car line, Vag's frail cockleshell almost at once encounters a large white island; whose towering stone cliffs rise perpendicular from the water's edge. Frail and thinly armored Japanese river gunboats had apparently been able to support the attackers. In Hankow, 135 miles above Kiukiang. the flight of the whole civilian population into the interior was ordered and organized last week by Chinese Generalissimo Chiang Kaishek. Most Government clerks and records had already been sent 650 miles further up river to Chungking. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Chung-hui gave a farewell party to the press before he departed, followed by the envoys of the Great Powers...

...scenes from movies, elevated trains, football players, his playmates, views of Claremont Parkway and Washington Avenue, and the scene that meets the suburban eye as frequently as any other-women pushing baby carriages. His figures were recognizable, except that, as in most child's drawings, the legs were frail and extended; but he used whatever colors fitted his general composition, getting red or green skies if they seemed right, and slapping on his color boldly without bothering with a preliminary sketch...
