...Based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith, who also authored the novel that was the source of the Hitchcock classic "Strangers on a Train," Wim Wenders' new thriller is frighteningly effective. Bruno Ganz and Dennis Hopper turn in the best performances of their careers as a dying Swiss picture framer and a psychologically-shattered American who helps manipulate the picture framer into murdering an upper-echelon Mafioso, and Wenders' sharp eye and dramatic sense hone the film to a remarkably fine edge...
Last week Giscard finally did go to dinner, and the first family selected to play host to France's First Family turned out to be that of Claude Cucchiarini. A Parisian picture framer, Cucchiarini had done some work for the President and casually invited him over. More than this, Mr. Swetzoff is a knowledgeable and friendly man with varied interests (yoga, old master drawings) and a sense of humor. He also puts on more-or-less regular exhibits in his gallery room. His present show is of Max Swartz, who does pop art pictures of the Beatles--need...
...Auburn Street is the Paul Schuster Gallery. Mr. Schuster is a tasteful and craftsmanly framer. He also maintains a stock of prints by Matisse, Zao Wou-ki, Roualt (wood engravings, around $30), and others. He is moving away from prints toward showing more contemporary paintings, his true love...
