What makes Unprotected's sex talk work is that it rises above the level of moronic frat-boy humour. It's not that the album is afraid of the scatological (Schimmel describes an exchange between his wife and himself: "Maybe you suffer from premature ejaculation." "Does it look like I'm suffering? Those aren't tears on your belly."). It's that the album isn't potty-mouthed for its own sake (hello, South Park). It focuses on Schimmel's family life, and its central point is our common insecurities about sex and the absurdities they drive us to: peeking...

At the same time, the two boys are being exposed to a world beyond that of the traditional Jewish one--older son Van is seduced by the WASPish world of white bread neighbourhoods, frat boys and beautiful blond girls, and falls in love with stunner Dubbie (played by model Carolyn Murphy); Ben finds himself drawn to a black girl, Sylvia (Rebekah Johnson). A quiet rebellion thus results in the movie as the two boys get closer and closer to girls that are disapproved...

...Gate and are instantly drawn to the sounds of Tone-Loc emanating from a white sport utility vehicle in the MAC parking lot. Seeing a party in progress, we approach the large group of guys and a lone female. The guys--who identify thesmelves as members of the D.U. frat--are en route to a night of partying in Cape Cod, but they are clearly wasting no time, enjoying themselves right there on the asphalt. Chips and beverage overflow in the trunk, as the travelers idly but excitingly wait for stragglers to arrive...
...dancing in a green-lit other room. We head into the green-lit room, and Tad informs me that I "better make some friends fast," as he disappears into the crowd. I dance a bit with Team Tag-along and then leave them to meet some authentic MIT frat brothers, whom I approach as "Mambo #5" fills the murky air from the party's fog machine. Eventually I end up in the DJ Room, where the usual DJ-table crowd is gathered. With no alcohol present, the bartender serves (unlaced) brownies. Realizing it is time to head back to Harvard...
