...House G.O.P. leaders rallied to support his re-election, Democrats circled ravenously. Said David Bonior, Democratic whip and the Speaker's nemesis: "Mr. Gingrich engaged in a pattern of tax fraud, lies and cover-up in paving his road to the second highest office of this land. He is not worthy of that office." Bonior called for the Department of Justice, the FBI, a grand jury and others to investigate. Said he: "The Gingrich case does not end here...

...Robert Dornan "B-1 Bob" went ballistic after narrowly losing his House seat in Orange County, California, to Hispanic financial analyst Loretta Sanchez. Threatening to sue her for election fraud, Dornan called Sanchez a "liar" and said "the whole thing stinks to high heaven." Of course, sour grapes were to be expected from the former fighter pilot who once grabbed a fellow Congressman by the collar and called him a "draft-dodging wimp." Attorneys question which jobs the defendants were doing: television news producers or supermarket employees. Food Lion is suing Dale, Burnette and ABC for $2.5 billion over a story that portrayed Food Barn stores in North and South Carolina selling contaminated meat in unsanitary conditions...

Voter turnout was estimated at 65 percent to 70 percent of Ghana's 9.2 million eligible voters. Despite protests of election fraud by Kufuor supporters, international observers said there was no indication of manipulation of the vote. Rawlings has been praised for launching an austerity program in the early 1980s that gave Ghana one of the most stable economies in West Africa. According to one voter, a Rawlings vote...
