...larger groups represented at the meeting -- notably Operation Rescue and its more sizable spin-offs -- seemed at least superficially resistant to that transition; they require that members sign a pledge of nonviolence. Yet Fred Hobbs, a special agent with the Florida department of law enforcement who has been investigating antiabortion violence for over a year, notes, "We feel that sometimes these pledges are ((merely)) a means to avoid prosecution under criminal and civil RICO ((federal racketeering)) statutes." In addition, during the meeting more militant pro-lifers founded a new group, the American Coalition of Life Activists, at least partly...
...refugee camp. After high school, he became a guerrilla fighter in the Ugandan rebel army, where he rose to chief of military intelligence. When the R.P.F. invaded Rwanda in 1990, Kagame was taking an officers' course at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The assault foundered when Major General Fred Rwigyema was killed. During his first tour of the city, Fred comes upon a wall scrawled with anti-American, anti-NATO slogans. Equipped with his felt-tipped pen, Fred changes the Spanish word for pigs ("cerdos") to that for deers ("ciervos"). It ends up reading "Yankee Deers Go Home." The problem here is that you don't know if you are supposed to laugh or scoff...
...purpose, direction and clarification to the story he is trying to tell. It is a love story? Not really. He never tells us if Ted's impression of women, which he tires to communicate at the beginning of the film, ever really changes. And the near-death trauma which Fred undergoes drags on entirely too long, leading to no concrete resolution...
