...bossa nova-like rhythms, Schifrin composed his setting of prayers from the Roman Catholic Mass out of conviction that the vitality of jazz is the best way to modernize the spirit of church worship. High point of the record is Schifrin's eerie, agonized Creed: behind the free-form obbligato of Paul Horn's alto sax, the eight members of a chorus autonomously sing, at their own pace and in their own key, the words of the Nicene Creed, dynamically ascending in volume with each phrase. By the final "amen," the shouting cacophony shatters the ear, yet conveys...

...playgrounds with their slick stretches of asphalt, colorful, convoluted slides and free-form sculptures for climbing, are among the world's safest, cleanest and most indestructible. But are they what children want? Of course not, says Lady Allen of Hurtwood, 68, a prominent British landscape architect and president of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education. After a month's survey of the East Coast's showpiece playgrounds, the no-nonsense dowager observed crisply that they are "an administrator's heaven and a child's hell." ...Woman Is a Woman is a 35-mm. salute to life, liberty and off-beat movies by Director Jean-Luc Godard (Breathless), whose joy in his work has never been more apparent. In this fresh and giddy free-form improvisation, Godard weaves all the bright idiocy of a Hollywood musical into some very je m'en fiche French rounds involving an ecdysiast (Anna Karina) who sheds her last flimsy inhibition and decides to have a baby with her lover, or-if it happens to work out that way-with her lover's best friend (Jean-Paul Belmondo...

Louis Kahn and Sculptor Isamu Noguchi have produced a design for a $1,000,000 playground to be carved out of Riverside Park. Proposed as a memorial to the late Philanthropist Adele R. Levy, the layout includes a grass-covered amphitheater, a pyramid and some handsome free-form sculptures designed to tempt the clambering young. But by the time the park engineers, the evaluators, the experts and the mayor are through with the plans, many a moppet may well have hair gone grey at the temples...
