Freudian thinking has emphasized emotional factors in frigidity. Kegel does not deny the importance of psychic elements, but insists that the emphasis is misplaced. Says Kegel in sum: "We have had many cases previously diagnosed as 'emotionally frigid,' but we found that after the muscles had been strengthened by exercise and the patient learned to use them, the emotional frigidity-if there ever was any-disappeared." In correcting this disorder, he reports success in 65% of cases...
...immigrants lingered long enough in the city to partake of Tammany's good deeds. Some pushed northward, across the Catskills, the Mohawk Valley and the Adirondacks as far as frigid Franklin County on the Canadian border. Others moved westward across the muck flats around Syracuse to Lake Erie and the Pennsylvania line. High above the Great Rift Valley in Kenya, a voice boomed over the frigid slopes of the Aberdare Mountains: "Come out of the forests, my children. You must stop this senseless war. Come out and I promise you good treatment." For ten days and nights the loudspeaker blared its message in Swahili, but its only answer was the rustle of the forest and the sounds of the beasts. Finally, the Rev. William Wellesley Devitt and his nine native companions picked up their gear and returned to Kijabe (Place of the Wind), where a cluster of grey stone buildings clings...
