Before she can finish the thought, Hoge interjects excitedly to plug Jeremy Enigk and his album Return of the Frog Queen, a strong influence on the film. “You have to get this album, it’s just great. It created this beautiful melancholy sound, and I just felt that this was the tone I wanted for the film; the sense that there was a sadness, but underneath it there was an undercurrent of hope...

Former Congressman from Kentucky Romano Mazzoli, said the issue is always “vexing, meddlesome, and difficult—no one feels comfortable with it.” He said he struggled as a pro-life Congressman in the Democratic party. Quoting Kermit the Frog, he told the audience that “It ain’t easy being green,” isolated in a party dominated by pro-choicers, but said that he chose his position out of honesty...

The music leaps from song to song like Gordon’s frog leaps between lily pads. Moreover, the music is more often depressing and hostile than it is feel-good or even likeable; in the song “In the Middle of the Room,” for example, Gordon sings how he wishes someone would kill him, while his mother...
