...such disastrous results that cautious U.S. field commanders are torn between optimism and perplexity. Since last October, when North Vietnamese regulars launched the war's most inept attack at Loc Ninh, losing 926 dead to 50, enemy forces have repeatedly hurled themselves against heavily fortified positions from their frontier redoubts...

...another new hotel on Park Place for Howard Hughes, 61, the world's most indefatigable Monopoly player. Without emerging from his $250-a-day cave on the ninth floor of Las Vegas' Desert Inn, the phantom billionaire has concluded negotiations to take over the 650-room Frontier Hotel for a total of $9,000,000. Hughes's holdings in and around Las Vegas are now worth over $100 million, include the Desert Inn, Sands Hotel, Alamo Airways, 30,000 acres of land and the city airport...

By this week the Loc Ninh body count of North Vietnamese dead had grown to 926; U.S. intelligence estimated that perhaps half that many again had been dragged away for burial by their comrades, and that another 2,000 to 3,000 had been wounded. This high casualty rate (roughly 50%) for the two ill-fated Red regiments, who were ordered to take...

...talented society." Just as they have turned against ideology, the brighter young Russians are now reluctant to go in for a party career. In an otherwise routine and un interesting anniversary speech last week, Brezhnev went so far as to refer to his regime as Russia's "New Frontier." The use of the slogan of John F. Kennedy's Administration may have been more than a coincidence: many Russian youths are admirers of the late U.S. President...
