FLYING RINGS.The next event was the flying rings, for which there were three entries - J. B. Walker, '84 (black); G. B. Morison, '83 (white), and T. C. Bachelder, '83 (blue). The feats of Bachelder were noted particularly for their strength, while Morison, especially in his front flyaway, excelled in grace. Walker's socket motions were good. The whole exhibition was watched with great interest and was an excellent display throughout. Bachelder's back turn-over was an especially difficult feat and well executed. Active preparations are being made at the boat house for the opening of the present season. The little float has been brought down in front of the '83 and '84 quarters, and the bridge will be put up today. The large float is frozen in solid. The plank covering has been taken off, so as to give the ice a chance to thaw, and an attempt will probably be made next Saturday at high tide to float it around the front of the boat house...

There was a great rush for gymnasium tickets yesterday morning. EDITORS HARVARD HERALD : In your article of Monday on fire-escapes it was mentioned that "the plan of permanent ladders, such as are now on Matthews and Holyoke, was objectionable in several ways. On the front of the buildings situated like Hollis, Stoughton and others the ladders would be ungainly-looking objects and give easy access to robbers in summer." These objections, however, do not apply to the middle entry of Thayer. A stationary ladder could be adjusted to the building on either side of the entry windows facing the chapel without destroying the harmony of structure of the hall...
