Restic's hopes for an explosive backfield have been lampened by an injury to Rod Foster. Restic finally convinced Foster to give up his quarterback career (with the persuasive arguments of Jim Stoeckel and Fric Crone on his side) and use his considerable running talent as a fullback. But Foster is nursing an injured ankle, and he has missed the pre-season practice he needed to master his new position. If Foster isn't ready in time, Restic will have to rely on the shaky ankles and ailing back of Steve Hall a good blocking fullback who saw more time...

Foster was equally hopeless a week later against Columbia, coughing up three more interceptions and netting a total of 33 yards through the air. The running game was hot, though, as the recovery of injured fullback Steve Hall allowed Teddy DeMars to return to his old halfback position, where he ripped off 132 yards in 12 carries. Sticking entirely to the ground, Harvard marched 70 yards in nine plays right after the opening kickoff and scored twice more on long runs to nip the Lions, 21-19. The defensive line continued to recover from its first game porousness, stomping Columbia...

...YALE GAME was, to say the least, a hopeful omen for the '72 team. With DeMars and Rich Gatto, who, although not a great runner, is a smart, consistent back, Restic will have a strong running game, especially if fullback Steve Hall is healthy next year, or if Restic can find someone else. Stoekel should be back, and if Crone can suit his rifle arm to the Restic system as well as he did against Yale, the quarterbacking will be more than adequate. The offensive line will lose a lot of starters, but because Restic so frequently rotated...

...Slightly under 5 ft. 7 in. tall, he has held his weight around 140 Ibs. for most of his playing career. His apparent signs of fatigue between points -hanging his head, then lifting it again with a visible sigh-have long been a Rosewall trademark. Actually, like former Cleveland Fullback Jimmy Brown, Muscles saves his energy for the moments when the ball is in play...

...touchdown which was called back. I carried the ball twice behind the blocking of the second-string line for a 7.5-yard average. It was the first and last opportunity I had to carry the ball in a varsity game for Harvard. I stayed as a third-string fullback throughout the duration of the 1970 season and was relegated to junior varsity football. During the season I constantly protested to Yovicsin, the coaching staff, the administration of the University and anyone else who would listen, for a fair chance to play varsity football. It was a chance that never came...
