...know people think it is funny to hear about me playing a Victorian maiden," acknowledged six-time Wife Zsa Zsa Gabor, sixtyish. Far funnier to watch. Co-starring with Sister Eva, two years younger, Zsa Zsa opened last week at Chicago's Arlington Park Theater in a five-week revival of the classic farce Arsenic and Old Lace. "It's going to make theatrical history," announced Eva. The original script has been changed. The two old Brooklyn ladies who mercy-kill homeless tramps have been given a recent European ancestry to explain why Eva and Zsa Zsa romp...
...moments like that, Brooks can be forgiven almost anything. He always furnishes plenty that needs forgiving, but his best scenes are madder, funnier, more inspired than anything being done in movies today, including the rather coddled comedy of Woody Allen. Brooks must also have got tired of people telling him what a maladroit technician he has been, and he has taken some pains to correct that failing here. Young Frankenstein is his best-crafted film so far. It contains uniformly excellent performances, among which Madeline Kahn's delicate but libidinous fiancee ranks high...
...Hershfield, 89, perennial master of ceremonies, raconteur, columnist and cartoonist; in Manhattan. Hershfield first exercised his wit as the cartoonist-creator of the Desperate Desmond and Abie the Agent comic strips. In the 1940s he gained a wide following as one of the three gagmen who tried to tell funnier stories than the radio audience of Can You Top This? A leading light on the "rubber chicken circuit" for more than 50 years, Hershfield was famous for such sententiae as: "A conscience cannot prevent sin. It only prevents you from enjoying...

Crowley has the best Gilbert and Sullivan voice in the cast, a compound of condescension and donnish befuddlement, and it's unfortunate he didn't have the chance to perform a patter song. His "I've Got a Little List"--perhaps the number that has proved most useful to later...
This movie, made virtually in tandem with Andy Warhol's Frankenstein (TIME, June 10), is not quite so spectacular: it is not, like Frankenstein, in migraine-inducing 3-D, and Director-Writer Morrissey goes a little easier on the gore. As a result, the movie is actually funnier-although Morrissey is never going to be a master of restraint...
