...Freshman eleven was overwhelmingly defeated by Phillips Academy at Andover last Saturday by a score of 51 to 0. Four substitutes weakened the Freshman team to such an extent that Andover, after the first half in which only two touchdowns were made, was able to gain almost at will. Except for Nichols's two runs of 105 and 40 yards, each resulting in a touchdown, there was little efficient open play, the team relying on line plays to gain distance. The effectiveness of the line plays, however, was due chiefly to sheer weight and the lack of concerted action on the part of Brown's line. Bowditch at end on the defense was very active and strengthened the whole right side of the line. ...unexpectedly close game the Freshman eleven defeated Boston Latin School yesterday, by the score of 6 to 0. The playing of the Freshmen was disappointing, although the Boston Latin team showed considerable strength. Frequently the Freshmen were held for downs and were unable for the most part to gain successively. The runners did not follow what little interference could be formed, and the line held weakly, allowing their opponents to break through and tackle the runner for a loss. There was little evidence of team-play, nor did the men help along the runner, when tackled, to any appreciable extent...

...preliminary report of the registration in all departments of the University up to Saturday, October 17, is issued this morning. The total registration shows a gain of 65 over the registration at the corresponding date last year, and a gain of 15 over the final registration of last year. The three departments under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences show a gain of 27 over the corresponding figure of last year, a loss of 37 in the College and of 19 in the Scientific School being more than offset by the remarkable gain of 83 in the Graduate School...
